From padlock to approval at Porkbun
Find the name
Open the Domain Management page and locate the domain in the list.
Click the padlock
Click the green lock icon on the right of the row. It turns gray and reads "unlocked".
Get the key
Open the "Details" drop-down and choose "Get Authorization Code". A window shows the key under "Auth Code".
File the transfer
Enter the name and the key on the TransferOffshore transfer form.
Approve it at Porkbun
Back in "Details", click "Approve / Deny" under "Registrar Transfer", then "Approve Transfer Out" and "OK".
Why does the gaining registrar still see the Porkbun domain as locked?
Most often the padlock was not really switched. A Dynadot help page (secondary) describes "domain locked" errors when the icon was never toggled. Look again: gray with "unlocked" is the state you need.
Wait a few minutes, then resubmit. A name in its expiry grace period may need Porkbun support to unlock, per Porkbun's own article updated 7 August 2025.
Should you transfer, or only change DNS at Porkbun?
If you only want a new web host, new nameservers are enough. Porkbun's knowledge base suggests pointing DNS rather than transferring when hosting is the goal.
A transfer is for changing the registrar itself: its jurisdiction, payment methods or privacy terms. Porkbun does not describe what happens to its DNS and email forwarding after a move out. Copy both before you approve.
What do you do on TransferOffshore with the code?
Paste the name and its code in the transfer form: one row per domain, up to 20 rows per request. Your current nameservers are kept by default. A .com transfer costs $12.49 and adds one year (all prices). You pay from a crypto balance, with no ID. By ICANN rules, a registrar must hand over the code within 5 calendar days. It cannot hold the code back over a payment dispute (auth code guide).
Porkbun transfer questions
How long does a transfer out of Porkbun take?
About 5 days without action, per Porkbun's approval article updated 7 September 2026. Approving under "Details" > "Approve / Deny" shortens it. The registry then completes the move, and the name appears under My domains at TransferOffshore, with one year added on gTLDs such as .com.
Which cryptocurrency does Porkbun accept?
Only USDC, through Coinbase Business, per Porkbun's payment options page read on 19 October 2026. Bitcoin is not on that list. TransferOffshore accepts Bitcoin (BTC), Tether (USDT), USD Coin (USDC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), Litecoin (LTC) from a prepaid balance with a $25 minimum. Our Porkbun comparison covers prices and data asked.
How long is a Porkbun auth code valid?
Porkbun publishes no validity period. If the gaining registrar rejects the key, open "Get Authorization Code" again and copy the current one. On TransferOffshore, a failed row shows the reason and a form to correct the code, so the request does not start over.
