Transfer a domain from Dynadot to an offshore registrar

Dynadot has two locks, one on the account and one on the domain. Lift both, and the code appears on the same screen.

Quick answer

How do I transfer a domain from Dynadot?

To transfer a domain from Dynadot, open Manage Domains, click the name and go to the Authorization Code section. Press Unlock Account, then Unlock, and the code appears. Paste it into TransferOffshore and confirm Dynadot's Transfer Away email. As of October 2026, Dynadot advises starting at least 2 weeks before expiry.

Two locks, one code: the Dynadot route

  1. Open Manage Domains

Sign in, open "Manage Domains" and click the domain.

  2. Lift the account lock

In the "Authorization Code" section, press "Unlock Account" if the account itself is locked.

  3. Lift the domain lock

Then press "Unlock" for the domain.

  4. Copy the code

The code now shows in that section. Paste it at TransferOffshore with the name.

  5. Confirm Transfer Away

Dynadot opens a transfer-away order and emails you. Confirm it from the "Transfer Away" email.

Why are there two locks at Dynadot?

Dynadot adds an account-level lock on top of the usual domain lock. "Unlock Account" lifts the first one, and "Unlock" lifts the second.

Forgetting the account lock makes the domain button look broken. Once both are off, the code appears in the "Authorization Code" section, ready to copy.

Can I move a domain I just bought on the Dynadot Aftermarket?

Not until its hold ends. Dynadot keeps an "Auction Lock" or a "Buy Lock" on aftermarket names until the period runs out. The usual 60-day limit after a registration or a transfer applies too.

Dynadot also asks you to start at least 2 weeks before expiry. Names under .UK, .RO and .BE follow different procedures there.

What do you do on TransferOffshore with the code?

Paste the name and its code in the transfer form: one row per domain, up to 20 rows per request. Your current nameservers are kept by default. A .com transfer costs $12.49 and adds one year (all prices). You pay from a crypto balance, with no ID. By ICANN rules, a registrar must hand over the code within 5 calendar days. It cannot hold the code back over a payment dispute (auth code guide).

Dynadot transfer questions

Where do Dynadot transfer emails go when privacy is on?

To your account email. With Dynadot privacy enabled, Whois emails are forwarded to the address on your Dynadot account, per its help page. Keep that inbox at hand, because the "Transfer Away" confirmation arrives there. If the account email is outdated, fix it before you press "Unlock".

Which cryptocurrencies does Dynadot accept?

BTC, USDC and USDT, per a search excerpt of Dynadot's "How to Pay with Crypto?" page. TransferOffshore accepts BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC. You send the exact amount and click "I've sent the payment". The payment is matched by its exact amount and credited once the network confirms it.

What happens to Dynadot DNS after the move?

Dynadot's transfer-away page does not say. Copy any DNS records hosted at Dynadot before you confirm, and make sure the domain points to nameservers that will keep answering. TransferOffshore keeps the current nameservers by default, or lets you pick new ones on the form.
