Transfer a domain from Hover to an offshore registrar

Hover freezes nameservers during a transfer and disconnects its email afterwards. Moving DNS first is the whole trick.

Quick answer

How do I transfer a domain from Hover?

To transfer a domain from Hover, turn off its transfer lock and copy the authorization code from the domain overview. Paste it into TransferOffshore. As of October 2026, Hover emails the owner a confirm or cancel link. Domains on ns1.hover.com need DNS set up elsewhere first, and Hover email stops when the domain leaves.

Leaving Hover without losing DNS

  1. Move DNS if it lives at Hover

Does the domain use ns1.hover.com and ns2.hover.com? Then create the zone at the new DNS host and switch first.

  2. Turn the transfer lock off

Hover's article says to turn off the domain's transfer lock; it does not name the toggle.

  3. Retrieve the code

Copy the authorization code shown in the domain overview.

  4. File it at TransferOffshore

Enter the name and the code on the transfer form.

  5. Confirm the owner email

Hover emails the Owner contact a confirm or cancel link. Acting promptly speeds the move.

Why must DNS move before a Hover transfer?

Because nameservers cannot be changed while a transfer runs, as Hover's transfer-away article states. If the domain resolves through ns1.hover.com and ns2.hover.com, act before you request the code.

Set up the records at the new provider, switch nameservers, and check that the site answers. Then keep those new nameservers on the TransferOffshore form.

What happens to Hover email?

Hover disconnects its email service once the domain transfers away. Move the mailboxes and MX records before you click confirm.

That click is also final: Hover says a transfer cannot be cancelled once approved. Treat the confirmation email as your last checkpoint.

What do you do on TransferOffshore with the code?

Paste the name and its code in the transfer form: one row per domain, up to 20 rows per request. Your current nameservers are kept by default. A .com transfer costs $12.49 and adds one year (all prices). You pay from a crypto balance, with no ID. By ICANN rules, a registrar must hand over the code within 5 calendar days. It cannot hold the code back over a payment dispute (auth code guide).

Hover transfer questions

Can I avoid the Hover 60-day contact lock?

Yes, if you act at the right moment. When you update registration records, Hover offers a box: "Don't apply a 60-day transfer lock to this domain". Tick it before saving. Once the lock is in place, Hover says it cannot remove it early.

How do I move a .uk name away from Hover?

Through an IPS tag change, not an auth code, and Hover Support applies the new tag for you. TransferOffshore sells .uk only with Domain protection, because the registry needs a name and address; the registry then holds our company's details. See the .uk transfer guide.

Does Hover accept crypto?

We found no crypto payment option at Hover on 19 October 2026, so it is unverified. TransferOffshore is paid in crypto only: BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, from a balance with a minimum top-up of $25. The .com transfer and renewal cost the same there.
