Transfer a .uk domain to TransferOffshore

Last updated: · 4 min read

Quick answer

How do I transfer a .uk domain?

A .uk does not use an auth code: your current registrar changes the IPS tag, and Nominet moves the domain with its expiry unchanged. At TransferOffshore, .uk transfers go through support, not the transfer form. Nominet plans code-based transfers from 9 February 2027, per Realtime Register. As of 19 October 2026, the .uk transfer costs $38.49, billed once, paid in crypto.

With Domain protection: this extension is sold only with Domain protection, because its registry needs a name and address; the registry and WHOIS show DomaineGoat LLC, never you. The price shown includes the $29/year for it.

What happens when a .uk domain changes registrar?

Nominet does not ask for an auth code. Each registrar has an IPS tag, a short identifier. To move a .uk, the current registrar sets the domain's tag to the new registrar's tag. The domain then belongs to the new registrar.

This process does not change the expiry date and is free at the registry, according to a Nominet proposal paper from 2023. With us, .uk is sold only with Domain protection, so the tag change and the change of registrant are handled in the same order.

What changes in 2027. Nominet is standardising .uk transfers. From 9 February 2027, transfers will use a Transfer Authorisation Code valid up to 14 days, with an optional renewal of 1 to 10 years. This date comes from Realtime Register, a secondary source. Nominet's own policy PDF did not open when we checked.

Until then, ask support for the tag to use before you change anything. Support confirms the steps for .uk before you pay.

What should you check before moving a .uk domain?

  • Do not change the IPS tag before support confirms it. A tag set to the wrong registrar sends the domain elsewhere.
  • Note the expiry date. It will not move, so renew separately if it is close.
  • Keep the nameservers; the tag change does not touch DNS.
  • If the request is not completed within 15 days, it times out, according to registrar notes. Then start again.

What does a .uk transfer cost?

$38.49 for the .uk transfer, then $38.49/year to renew (all prices). That amount is billed once and includes Domain protection at $29 a year. The tag change adds no time: the expiry date stays the same, so renew from My domains when you want more time. Because .uk transfers go through support, support confirms the amount with you before you pay.

Who uses .uk domains?

UK businesses, charities and anyone targeting British users use .uk. Tip: if the .uk expires within the next month, renew it at the current registrar first or ask support. The transfer will not add time.

.uk transfer questions

Do I need an auth code to transfer a .uk?

No, not before 9 February 2027. A .uk moves when the current registrar changes its IPS tag to the new registrar's tag. You ask the current registrar to make the change. Support gives you the tag to use and confirms the steps before you pay.

Does a .uk transfer add a year?

No. Under the current tag process, the expiry date does not change, according to Nominet's 2023 proposal paper. From 9 February 2027, Nominet plans transfers with an optional renewal of 1 to 10 years, according to Realtime Register.

What changes for .uk in February 2027?

Nominet plans to move .uk to code-based transfers on 9 February 2027, according to Realtime Register. The gaining registrar will then use a Transfer Authorisation Code valid up to 14 days. This page will change when Nominet's own text confirms it.
