Quick answer
How do I transfer a domain from GoDaddy?
To transfer a domain from GoDaddy, open Domain Portfolio, choose "Transfer to Another Registrar" and copy the code shown on screen into TransferOffshore. As of October 2026, GoDaddy's help says it releases the domain within seven days. Click "Approve Transfer" and it takes about 15 to 30 minutes. Downgrade GoDaddy's Domain Protection plan first.

Five steps in the GoDaddy Domain Portfolio
Select the domain
Sign in, open Domain Portfolio and tick the domain you want to move.
Pick Transfer to Another Registrar
Under "Transfer", select "Transfer to Another Registrar" and read the checklist GoDaddy displays.
Let GoDaddy prepare it
GoDaddy offers to unlock the name, switch off Domain Privacy and set its Domain Protection plan to none. You may also make each change yourself.
Prove it is you
With its Domain Protection plan on, GoDaddy wants your 2-step code if 2SV has run for 24 hours or more. Otherwise it emails a one-time passcode to the account.
Copy the code
Select "Continue with transfer", then "Click here to see Authorization Code" and "Copy to Clipboard". Finish with "Return to Domain Settings".
How fast does GoDaddy let the domain go?
Within seven days at most, according to GoDaddy's approval article as seen in a search excerpt on 19 October 2026. That is two days more than the 5-day default of ICANN's Transfer Policy, so a quiet day six is normal.
You can cut the wait. Open the Transfers page, choose "Transfers Out", then the "In Progress" tab, and click "Approve Transfer". GoDaddy says the move then ends in about 15 to 30 minutes.
Why does GoDaddy refuse to release the code?
Usually a lock period or GoDaddy's Domain Protection plan is still in force. New registrations and incoming transfers stay locked for 60 days. Domains bought in a bundle stay locked for 120 days after registration.
A registrant change adds 60 more days only if the registrant chose "Lock domain transfers for 60 days" while approving it. Domain Privacy is switched off during the flow, so your real contact data passes to the next registrar. GoDaddy's transfer page says nothing about its hosted DNS after the move: copy those records before you start.
What do you do on TransferOffshore with the code?
Paste the name and its code in the transfer form: one row per domain, up to 20 rows per request. Your current nameservers are kept by default. A .com transfer costs $12.49 and adds one year (all prices). You pay from a crypto balance, with no ID. By ICANN rules, a registrar must hand over the code within 5 calendar days. It cannot hold the code back over a payment dispute (auth code guide).
GoDaddy transfer questions
Does GoDaddy charge a fee to transfer a domain away?
GoDaddy's transfer-away article, read on 19 October 2026, names no fee, but it does not call the move free either. Check your account before you begin. ICANN rules forbid a registrar to hold back the code over a payment dispute. At TransferOffshore you pay the transfer price, which adds one year on gTLDs.
Does GoDaddy accept Bitcoin or other crypto?
No. As of 19 October 2026, GoDaddy's payment-methods page lists cards, PayPal, Klarna, bank transfers and several local methods, with no cryptocurrency. TransferOffshore works the other way round: crypto only, with BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, from a prepaid balance. Renewals after the move are paid from that same balance.
Does Domain Privacy stay on after the move?
No. GoDaddy turns Domain Privacy off as part of the transfer-away flow, so the contact data can reach the gaining registrar. At TransferOffshore, WHOIS privacy is free where the extension allows it. Domain protection, at +$29/year per domain, puts the domain in the name of DomaineGoat LLC.
