Transfer a .tv domain to TransferOffshore

Last updated: · 3 min read

Quick answer

How do I transfer a .tv domain?

A .tv transfer to TransferOffshore uses the auth code from your current registrar and takes up to 5 days. Registrar notes say the registry renews the name on transfer. A .tv that was registered or moved in the last 60 days must wait. As of 19 October 2026, the .tv transfer costs $40.99, billed once, paid in crypto.

What happens when a .tv domain changes registrar?

The .tv extension belongs to Tuvalu, a Pacific island state. GoDaddy Registry has operated it since 2022, according to the registry's own announcement. Some registrar notes still name Verisign, the previous operator, so either name can appear in help pages.

For your transfer, the operator changes little. Registrar notes give this picture:

  • the auth code proves you hold the name;
  • the transfer renews the domain, though the number of years is not stated;
  • a 60-day lock follows a registration and also a transfer;
  • the losing registrar has up to five days.

Streaming and video sites often point a .tv at a video platform with a CNAME, or at a CDN. Those records live in your DNS zone. They stay if the nameservers stay, which is our default.

After the move, read the new expiry in My domains. Since the notes do not say how much time is added, that date is the real answer.

What should you check before moving a .tv domain?

  • Count 60 days from the creation date and from the last transfer.
  • List DNS records that point at streaming or video platforms, and leave them in place.
  • Check that the auth code matches the .tv, not a .com twin.
  • Ask your current registrar which expiry date it shows, and compare it after the transfer.

What does a .tv transfer cost?

$40.99 for the .tv transfer, then $40.99/year to renew (all prices). The registry renews the domain on transfer, so the payment adds registration time.

Who uses .tv domains?

Video creators, streaming channels, TV brands and media sites use .tv. Tip: schedule the transfer away from a live event. The DNS keeps working, but you do not want to troubleshoot anything during a broadcast.

.tv transfer questions

Who runs the .tv registry?

GoDaddy Registry has operated .tv for the Government of Tuvalu since 2022, according to its own announcement. Some registrar help pages still mention Verisign, the former operator. The transfer works the same way: auth code, up to 5 days, and a renewal on transfer.

Will my stream go offline during a .tv transfer?

No, if the nameservers stay the same. TransferOffshore keeps them by default, so the CNAME or A records that point to your video platform keep answering. Only the registrar changes.

Can I transfer a .tv that I moved last month?

Not yet. Registrar notes list a 60-day lock after a .tv transfer as well as after a registration. Wait until 60 days have passed since the last move.
