Transfer a .tech domain to TransferOffshore

Last updated: · 3 min read

Quick answer

How do I transfer a .tech domain?

For a .tech, unlock the name, copy the auth code from your registrar, and start the transfer at TransferOffshore. Radix adds one year at completion. ICANN gives the losing registrar 5 days. A name created in the last 60 days may be refused. As of 19 October 2026, the .tech transfer costs $52.49, billed once, paid in crypto.

What happens when a .tech domain changes registrar?

Tech companies often hold a .tech next to a main .com or .io. Those names tend to run services: API endpoints, status pages, staging environments. A transfer must not touch any of them.

The registrar change itself does not. Radix operates .tech as a gTLD, so the ICANN Transfer Policy applies. You give the auth code, the losing registrar has five days, and a year is added. We did not find .tech in the registrar notes we used; the 60-day lock is assumed from the ICANN rule and from Radix's .online.

What can break is DNSSEC. If the domain is signed and you keep the same nameservers, nothing changes: the DS record stays at the registry. If you also change nameservers, the DS record must change too. A wrong DS record makes the domain fail for every validating resolver.

Safe order: transfer with the nameservers kept, wait for Completed, then change DNS.

What should you check before moving a .tech domain?

  • Check whether DNSSEC is on: dig DS yourname.tech shows it.
  • Keep subdomains for APIs and staging on the same DNS host during the move.
  • List webhooks or OAuth callbacks that use the domain; they need no change if DNS stays.
  • Wait 60 days after creation.

What does a .tech transfer cost?

$52.49 for the .tech transfer, then $52.49/year to renew (all prices). One added year is included; it counts as the next renewal.

Who uses .tech domains?

Tech startups, hardware and software makers and engineering blogs use .tech. Tip: move the .tech names that only redirect first. Keep the ones that serve APIs for a quiet week.

.tech transfer questions

Does DNSSEC break when a .tech changes registrar?

Not if the nameservers stay the same. The DS record is held at the registry and stays valid. DNSSEC problems appear when you change nameservers without updating the DS record. TransferOffshore keeps the nameservers by default.

Is the .tech lock 60 days?

Probably. ICANN allows registrars to refuse a transfer within 60 days of registration, and Radix applies a 60-day registry lock to .online, according to registrar notes. We did not find a statement specific to .tech.

Can I move .tech names in bulk?

Yes. Up to 20 domains per request, one auth code per line. You can paste a list with the domain and code on each line. Larger sets go in several requests. See bulk domain transfer.
