What happens when a .ch domain changes registrar?
SWITCH, the Swiss registry, stopped selling .ch domains directly on 1 January 2015. Since then every .ch sits with a registrar, and the transfer code comes from that registrar.
Three facts shape a .ch transfer:
- No added year. Registrar notes say the expiry does not change. A .ch runs one year at a time, according to our extension data, so renew separately when needed.
- A lock after the move. SWITCH sets serverTransferProhibited for 60 days after a transfer, according to registrar notes. We could not confirm it on nic.ch.
- Privacy by default. Since 2021, holder names and addresses are no longer published, under a Swiss ordinance.
With Domain protection, DomaineGoat LLC becomes the holder of record. The transfer and the change of holder are done in one order.
What should you check before moving a .ch domain?
