**Quick answer — How do I transfer a .net domain?**

To move a .net, turn off the transfer lock, request the AuthInfo code, and submit both on TransferOffshore. As with .com, the registry is Verisign and the losing registrar gets 5 calendar days. One year is added to the expiry date. As of 19 October 2026, the .net transfer costs **$12.99**, billed once, paid in crypto.

## What happens when a .net domain changes registrar?

Many .net names run infrastructure: mail relays, APIs, status pages, nameservers. For them, the risk in a transfer is not the registry step. It is the DNS.

The registry step itself is short. Verisign receives the request with the AuthInfo code and asks the losing registrar to confirm. That registrar has five calendar days, and silence means yes. When the transfer completes, Verisign extends the term by one year.

What moves and what stays:

- **Moves:** the sponsoring registrar, the auth code, the billing.
- **Stays:** the nameservers set on the domain, and its glue records (host objects) at the registry.
- **May stop:** DNS, email forwarding or URL redirects that the old registrar hosted for free.

Our form keeps the current nameservers by default. If they belong to the old registrar's free DNS, copy every record to a new DNS host first.

## What should you check before moving a .net domain?

- Look up the domain in RDAP. The status must not show `clientTransferProhibited` or a pending dispute.
- If you run nameservers named after the domain itself, such as ns1.yourname.net, tell support before you pay. Their glue records must stay correct after the move.
- Plan any DNS host change for after the transfer, not during it.
- Keep the old account open until My domains shows Completed.

## What does a .net transfer cost?

$12.99 for the .net transfer, then $12.99/year to renew ([all prices](https://transferoffshore.com/pricing/)). The year Verisign adds is included. Verisign has announced a higher .net wholesale fee from 1 March 2027, according to Domain Name Wire; the price that applies to you is always the one on our grid.

## Who uses .net domains?

.net is a common choice for networks, hosting firms, internal tools and as a twin of a .com brand. Tip: if you hold both the .com and the .net, put them in the same request so they share one status page and land together.

## .net transfer questions

### Do glue records survive a .net transfer?

Yes. Glue records (host objects) are stored at the Verisign registry, not at the registrar, and they stay in place during the transfer. Afterwards you manage them from your new account. If your nameservers sit under the .net itself, tell support before you pay so we check them with you.

### Can I transfer a .net that expired last week?

Usually yes. ICANN's registrant FAQ says registrars may not refuse a transfer only because the domain expired. Once the name enters the redemption period, though, the current registrar must restore it first. See [expired domain transfer](https://transferoffshore.com/expired-domain-transfer/).

### Is .net handled differently from .com?

Not for the transfer itself. Both are Verisign gTLDs under the same ICANN Transfer Policy: auth code, a 5-day window and one year added. The differences are the price and the uses. A .net more often carries nameservers or mail, so check the DNS first.
