**Quick answer — How do I transfer a .app domain?**

A .app moves to TransferOffshore with its auth code and an unlocked status. Google Registry adds one year at completion, and the old registrar has 5 days to respond. Keep your nameservers and certificates as they are, because .app works over HTTPS only. As of 19 October 2026, the .app transfer costs **$15.49**, billed once, paid in crypto.

## What happens when a .app domain changes registrar?

Google Registry put the whole .app extension on the HSTS preload list built into browsers. Every .app site must load over HTTPS. A browser will not open it over plain HTTP, and visitors cannot click through a certificate warning.

A registrar transfer does not touch certificates. The certificate lives on your server or CDN, and it depends on DNS, not on the registrar. Keep the same nameservers and nothing changes.

Trouble starts when DNS moves at the same time. If the old registrar hosted your DNS and you switch provider, check before the switch:

- that your CDN or host can still renew the certificate, for example with Let's Encrypt;
- that any CAA record naming your certificate authority is copied;
- that the new DNS answers before the old one stops.

The registry part is plain gTLD procedure: auth code, five days, one year added.

## What should you check before moving a .app domain?

- Read the domain status in RDAP and remove `clientTransferProhibited`.
- Note the certificate expiry date. If you also change DNS, avoid the week it renews.
- Copy CAA, TXT and verification records, such as app store or search console records.
- If the .app is younger than 60 days, ask the old registrar whether it applies the optional ICANN refusal.

## What does a .app transfer cost?

$15.49 for the .app transfer, then $15.49/year to renew ([all prices](https://transferoffshore.com/pricing/)). One year is added by Google Registry, so the transfer replaces your next renewal.

## Who uses .app domains?

Mobile and web apps, SaaS products and app landing pages use .app. Tip: app stores and sign-in providers often verify the domain with a TXT record. Keep it in place, or the verification can fail after a DNS change.

## .app transfer questions

### Will my .app site show a security error after the transfer?

Not if the DNS and the certificate stay the same. HTTPS on .app depends on your server's certificate, not on the registrar. A problem only appears if you change DNS and the new setup cannot renew or serve the certificate.

### Does Google Registry lock a new .app domain?

The registrar notes we read on 19 October 2026 list no registry lock for .app. ICANN's Transfer Policy still allows the current registrar to refuse within 60 days of registration. Ask your registrar if your domain is that young.

### Can I move my .app DNS to Cloudflare in the same order?

Yes. The transfer form lets you keep the current nameservers or choose ours, Cloudflare or custom ones. Set up the zone at Cloudflare first, then pick it in the form. For a live app, keeping the current nameservers is the safer choice.
