Namecheap never shows the code on screen: it emails it to the registrant contact. Check that inbox before anything else.

**Quick answer — How do I transfer a domain from Namecheap?**

To transfer a domain from Namecheap, open Domain List, click Manage, then Sharing & Transfer. Unlock the name in the Transfer Out section and request the Auth Code. As of October 2026, Namecheap emails it to the registrant address and has up to 5 days to release the domain to TransferOffshore.

## Namecheap transfer-out facts

| Attribute | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Where the code is | Emailed to the Registrant email address, which may differ from the login email |
| Approve early | Namecheap has 5 days to release; an early-approval email appears only in old secondary reports (unverified) |
| Transfer locks | Must be over 60 days old and not transferred in the last 60 days |
| Contact-change lock opt-out | Yes: the Registration Agreement opts customers out of the 60-day Change-of-Registrant lock (KB 9819) |
| Specific holds | .CH, .ES, .FR, .LI, .PE and .SG must be renewed 12+ days before expiry, or they enter redemption |
| DNS and email impact | Not stated (BasicDNS, FreeDNS and email forwarding after the move unverified) |
| Crypto at Namecheap | Bitcoin via BTCPay or BitPay, as a balance top-up (search excerpt) |
| .com at Namecheap | $11.48 transfer, $18.48 renewal, before the $0.20 ICANN fee (domainoffer.net, 19 Oct 2026, secondary) |
| .com at TransferOffshore | $12.49 to transfer, one year added; $12.49 to renew |

## Getting the Namecheap Auth Code

1. **Open Domain List** — Sign in and click "Manage" next to the domain in your Domain List.
2. **Go to Sharing & Transfer** — Open the "Sharing & Transfer" tab and scroll down to the "Transfer Out" section.
3. **Unlock** — Switch the registrar lock off there. It must stay off until the gaining registrar has filed its request.
4. **Ask for the Auth Code** — Request the code in the same section. Namecheap asks you to choose a reason for leaving.
5. **Read the registrant inbox** — The code lands in the Registrant contact's mailbox. With Withheld for Privacy on, mail is forwarded to that same real address.

## Why did the Namecheap code not reach my inbox?

Because Namecheap mails it to the Registrant email, and that may not be the address you log in with. Look at the contact details of the domain first and correct an outdated one.

Withheld for Privacy swaps the public address for a forwarding one at withheldforprivacy.com. Per a search excerpt of Namecheap's privacy article, the message still reaches the real registrant inbox.

## Which Namecheap domains follow other rules?

.UK, .IS, .ES, .CH, .LI, .DE, .FR and .TO have their own transfer process at Namecheap. Six names carry a timing trap: .CH, .ES, .FR, .LI, .PE and .SG must be renewed at least 12 days before expiry.

Miss that date and they enter redemption, where no transfer is possible. Move such names well ahead of the renewal date. An "Invalid Auth/EPP code" cancellation means the code is out of sync with the registry, per a Namecheap article (search excerpt): request a fresh one.

## What do you do on TransferOffshore with the code?

Paste the name and its code in the [transfer form](https://transferoffshore.com/app/domains/transfer?lang=en): one row per domain, up to 20 rows per request. Your current nameservers are kept by default. A .com transfer costs $12.49 and adds one year ([all prices](https://transferoffshore.com/pricing/)). You pay from a crypto balance, with no ID. By ICANN rules, a registrar must hand over the code within 5 calendar days. It cannot hold the code back over a payment dispute ([auth code guide](https://transferoffshore.com/auth-code/)).

## Namecheap transfer questions

### Does the Namecheap contact-change lock block a transfer?

Usually not. Namecheap's knowledge base (article 9819, updated 15 August 2023) says its Registration Agreement opts customers out of the 60-day lock after a Change of Registrant. The 60-day limits after a new registration or a previous transfer still apply, so check both dates in WHOIS.

### Can I make Namecheap release the domain sooner?

Not with a documented button. Namecheap's own article only says it has 5 days to release the domain under ICANN rules. Talk of an early-approval email comes from old forum posts and stays unverified. Meanwhile TransferOffshore shows the row as "Waiting for the current registrar".

### Can I keep paying in Bitcoin after leaving Namecheap?

Yes. Namecheap takes Bitcoin only as an account top-up through BTCPay or BitPay, per a search excerpt of its payment page. TransferOffshore also runs on a prepaid balance, topped up with BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, from $25, and asks for no ID. Our [Namecheap comparison](https://transferoffshore.com/compare/namecheap/) sets both side by side.
