IONOS keeps generic domains locked by default and shows the code after a short delay. Its help says little about what happens next.

**Quick answer — How do I transfer a domain from IONOS?**

To transfer a domain from IONOS, open Renewal & Transfer > Domains, switch Domain transfer lock off and click Show Authorization Code. As of October 2026, the code can take several minutes to appear, and a .com must have been in your name for 60 days. Then paste it into TransferOffshore.

## IONOS transfer-out facts

| Attribute | Value |

## Where IONOS hides the authorization code

1. **Reach Renewal & Transfer** — Open the "Renewal & Transfer" page. A third-party guide (secondary) reaches it through the gear icon.
2. **Pick the domain** — In the "Domains" section, select the name you are moving.
3. **Release the lock** — Switch "Domain transfer lock" off. Generic TLDs carry it by default.
4. **Turn private registration off** — IONOS wants private registration disabled before you begin (search excerpt).
5. **Show the code** — Click "Show Authorization Code" and give it a few minutes to display.

## Which IONOS domains must wait 60 days?

Eight extensions: .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .mobi, .cc and .tv. IONOS says they must be registered in your name for at least 60 days before a transfer.

If the name moved into IONOS recently, that period counts again from the move. Look at the creation and transfer dates in WHOIS before you ask for the code.

## What does IONOS leave out of its transfer guide?

The approval step, DNS and email are not covered. So assume nothing. Export your DNS zone, list any mailbox that depends on IONOS records, and review your IONOS contract for linked services.

Some country-code domains have no code in the account at all. An Aruba guide (secondary) says IONOS support must provide those.

## What do you do on TransferOffshore with the code?

Paste the name and its code in the [transfer form](https://transferoffshore.com/app/domains/transfer?lang=en): one row per domain, up to 20 rows per request. Your current nameservers are kept by default. A .com transfer costs $12.49 and adds one year ([all prices](https://transferoffshore.com/pricing/)). You pay from a crypto balance, with no ID. By ICANN rules, a registrar must hand over the code within 5 calendar days. It cannot hold the code back over a payment dispute ([auth code guide](https://transferoffshore.com/auth-code/)).

## IONOS transfer questions

### Why is the IONOS authorization code blank?

It may just need time: IONOS says the code can take several minutes to appear after you click "Show Authorization Code". If it stays empty, check that "Domain transfer lock" is really off. For some country extensions, the code is not in the account and support provides it.

### Can I approve a transfer early at IONOS?

The IONOS page read on 19 October 2026 documents no early approval. Plan for the ICANN default: the losing registrar has 5 calendar days to respond, then the transfer goes through. TransferOffshore shows "Waiting for the current registrar" during that time.

### Does IONOS accept cryptocurrency?

We found no crypto payment option for IONOS on 19 October 2026, so it is unverified. TransferOffshore is paid in crypto only, with BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, and asks for one verified email, no ID. The .com transfer adds a year to the expiry date you had at IONOS.
