Gandi makes the code easy to find. What needs care is hosted mail: it stops on transfer day and its data is deleted a week later.

**Quick answer — How do I transfer a domain from Gandi?**

To transfer a domain from Gandi, open Domain > your domain > Transfer out, switch off Transfer lock enabled and copy the key into TransferOffshore. As of October 2026, Gandi emails the owner within 24 hours; clicking its link approves the move, otherwise it is accepted after 5 days. Gandi Mail stops at once.

## Gandi transfer-out facts

| Attribute | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Where the code is | On screen in the "Transfer out" tab: "Copy" or "Generate a new key" (owner or admin contact only) |

## The Gandi Transfer out tab, in order

1. **Open the domain** — Click "Domain" in the left menu, then the name.
2. **Choose Transfer out** — Open the "Transfer out" tab of that domain.
3. **Release the lock** — Click the toggle beside "Transfer lock enabled". Most two-letter ccTLDs have no lock to release.
4. **Copy or regenerate the key** — Use "Copy", or "Generate a new key" for a fresh one. Only the owner or admin contact sees it.
5. **Click the email link** — Within 24 hours Gandi emails the owner. Its link approves the transfer and ends the wait.

## What happens to Gandi Mail when the domain leaves?

It stops immediately. Gandi's FAQ says hosted mail ends right after the transfer, and the mail data is deleted seven days later.

Export your mailboxes before you approve, then set new MX records at your DNS host. Gandi does not say what happens to LiveDNS or web forwarding, so copy those settings as well.

## Who can see the Gandi transfer key?

Only the owner, the admin contact, or a user with the same permission. If someone else runs your Gandi organization, ask them to copy the key or grant you the right.

Domains handled by a Gandi reseller are a separate case. Gandi says their transfer must go through that reseller, not through your own Gandi account.

## What do you do on TransferOffshore with the code?

Paste the name and its code in the [transfer form](https://transferoffshore.com/app/domains/transfer?lang=en): one row per domain, up to 20 rows per request. Your current nameservers are kept by default. A .com transfer costs $12.49 and adds one year ([all prices](https://transferoffshore.com/pricing/)). You pay from a crypto balance, with no ID. By ICANN rules, a registrar must hand over the code within 5 calendar days. It cannot hold the code back over a payment dispute ([auth code guide](https://transferoffshore.com/auth-code/)).
